Eminem's last British shows in 2001 sparked controversy when he pretended to take pills on stage and wielded a chainsaw.
Since then he has enjoyed massive success with latest album, The Eminem Show, which has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide and gone to number one in 25 countries.
Critics raved over his performance in debut film 8 Mile and he won an Oscar for the song Lose Yourself.
Earlier this week he was named the second most powerful celebrity on the planet in a list compiled by US business magazine Forbes.
Eminem and the Shady Crew descended on Milton Keynes as part of their
"Anger Management Tour" in Europe 2003
65 000 tickets were sold out for just one of his concerts in 16 minutes!!! It was held near London 21-23 June. Yes, I went there :) I was very excited and could hardly wait to get there! It was a nice sunny day, and almost as hot as in Arizona ;-) They later had to release another 4000 tickets due to such big demand from the public.
Prices were sold at £30.- which is a lot less than the fellow Americans would have to pay to see him in the states! Last I checked on the web they were as much as $305.- !
So we got there, met up with some friends and got to know many more :)
The gates opened at 2pm and the concert was meant to start at 4. Yes, it was mean to...
We got some drinks, chilled out on the grass, walked around.... got some more drinks, sat on the grass again... had some food.... it was 6pm and the concert still hadn't started!! There were many people starting to get impatient and p*d off. No one knew what was going on or how much longer we would have to wait. I thought to myself: maybe that's why they call it 'The anger management tour...', as I opened another bottle.
Not good.
I think it must've been sometime after that when Marshall came on the stage, appearing on a giant ferris wheel to the strains of ‘Square Dance’. He was then joined by D12 to perform ‘Purple Pills’, before Eminem took the spotlight with ‘Stan’ and ‘The Way I Am’. 50 Cent and G Unit then joined in for ‘Wanksta’, ‘In Da Club’ and ‘21 Questions’. We also saw Xhibit, Obie Trice and DJ Green Lantern.
There were a lot of breaks between each artist came on and we found this still quite annoying. But once Eminem appeared on stage at 9pm everything turned around and it was much more than I expected. :)
The gig in the end definitely lived up to the hype, with a 27-song set and huge screens that relayed the on-stage action including amazing visuals and illusions, with Eminem onstage.
I liked how he had prepared a film for us with various clips from what all the critics have had to say about him on the news etc. Very funny :)
The crowd went insane for ‘Lose Yourself’ and ‘Sing For The Moment’, before the whole Shady family finished things off in style with ‘Rap Game’.
After that we carried onto some more parties in London and it wasn't until 6am when I passed out on a sofa after having watched the 8 Mile one more time, with a big smile on my face :D
