May 01, 2001

(New York, NY) Moby, MCT Management, and SFX today announced the details for the new nationwide, summer music festival tour called AREA: ONE. The AREA: ONE tour will play 16 markets in North America beginning July 11th in Atlanta, and wind up in Los Angeles on August 5th. The tour will visit major amphitheaters as well as some select non-traditional outdoor music venues. Tickets for the AREA: ONE Festival, presented by the Intel Pentium® 4 Processor, went on sale this Saturday, April 28th in Holmdel, Seattle and Denver. On May 5th tickets will go on sale in Philadelphia, Wantagh, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis Vancouver and Columbia, MD. Check local listings for additional on-sale information.

In addition to headliner, Moby, who will be making his only concert appearances of the year as part of AREA: ONE, the lineup includes Outkast, Incubus (East Coast Dates,) New Order (West Coast Dates,) Nelly Furtado (on select dates), Paul Oakenfold, The Orb, Carl Cox, The Roots, and Rinocerose.

In the same way that Lollapalooza redefined the notion of music festivals and opened the door for awareness and acceptance of alternative music a decade ago, the goal of AREA: ONE is to bring together the best in music.

Moby explains about the festival, “My reason for putting together AREA: ONE is that there is a lot of music in the world that I love that does not always get the appropriate exposure.”
,
At festival venues, Intel will present a Digital Music Zone where concert-goers can enjoy their favorite AREA: ONE artists' music and videos using the power of Pentium® 4processor-based PCs and Intel peripherals. Visitors will be able to create their own music videos, mix music, create and send e-mail postcards to friends and family, and sample tracks on audio players.

In addition to the main concert stage, AREA: ONE will include the FORD FOCUS AREA, an air-conditioned tent featuring a unique quad sound system to highlight the music being spun by DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, The Orb, Timo Maas, Rinocerose, Detroit’s The Innovators, featuring Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson.

During the multi-act festival, fans will be able to sample KMX, the new energy drink. KMX will be the exclusive host of special pre- and post festival parties that will be held in some of the most popular nightclubs. The parties will feature appearances by top DJs.

A portion of the proceeds from the AREA: ONE tour will go charity. Two of the charities that will receive benefits are GREENPEACE and LIFEBEAT.

AREA: ONE is a joint venture produced by Moby; his American managers Marci Weber and Barry Taylor; Vince Bannon and SFX. The Intel ® Pentium® 4 processor is the presenting sponsor of AREA: ONE; FORD FOCUS is the sponsor of THE FORD FOCUS AREA (DJ Tent); the new energy drink, KMX is also a featured sponsor of Area: One’s maiden voyage.

SFX, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications (NYSE: CCU), is the world's largest producer and marketer of live entertainment events. More information is available at www.sfx.com.

NEW ORDER ON TOUR :
BILLY CORGAN TO JOIN UP FOR AREA:ONE TOUR

(New Order) When New Order hits America this summer on the Area: One tour (which, of course, also features Moby, Outkast, and tons more), who will be their guitarist?

Would you believe former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan?

Here’s the scoop...New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert has taken a temporary leave of absence from the group in order to care for her 18-month-old daughter (who according to the child’s father, New Order drummer Stephen Morris, is recovering from a serious illness). This leaves a spot open a new guitar player, and... enter Mr. Corgan.

New Order singer Bernard Sumner reported to NME that Corgan also played with the band when they played a top-secret warm-up gig in the UK in early July). "Billy has been a New Order fan for years, and used to come and see us every time we played Chicago when he was about 17 or something," Sumner added. "We've known him since then and I just rang him up to see if he wanted to do (a track on the new album). It's gone on from there. I'm a big fan of the Pumpkins."

As for the new track, "Turn My Way" appears on New Order’s forthcoming album, Get Ready (their first release since 1993's Republic. The New Order/Corgan summit will take place on the San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, and Los Angeles stops on the Area: One tour.
