Day 5, Pre-Camp

Ok, I've been delinquent in my duties (though I think I'm the only one who noticed), we are already well into Pre-Camp, or camp for the counselors. Allow me to backtrack and get caught up.

All the counselors arrived Saturday evening to report on time to the 8:00 flag formation on Sunday. There is nothing better than that first moment you arrive at camp, get out of the car, breathe in the fresh air, and get that first scoop of sand in your shoes that will remain for next nine weeks. Then its off to the Eye to reunite. That first Leini's in the Eye, with the late afternoon sun piercing through the permanant dimness, the crack of the pool balls...its great to be back. By the next morning, there have already been firecrackers in the middle of the night (courtesy of H), and some unwitting Super Stude has had his trunk and duffle stolen (check the GH clubhouse on the other side of the lake).

Pre-camp, for those who have never been, is a great experience. Hard work in the morning (moving the boats out of the Wildlife lodge), hoops in the afternoon, and night time activities. Its the easiest hard work you'll ever do.

Thursday is the morning when cabins are assigned. Time to arrange those beds with leaders in opposite ends of the cabin. Tonight, time to hang out at Council and have the vets talk about what Horseshoe means to them. Tomorrow is the counselors party (how many people can we get on the Big Horse) and then the lid is on as camp is about to begin.

As for campers (in the old days), they've been walking around in old summer clothers for a week because their trunk and duffle were shipped to camp last Friday. At least you've got those new gym shoes to wear (and they have a perfect place to hide a message for Message to Garcia). Enjoy your last full nights sleep in a normal bed and air conditioned room. Things are about to change for the better...
