Eric, you're doing a fine job of capturing the key events at camp for this time of year. From a counselor's perspective, though, there are a couple of elements that you've overlooked.

For starters, you failed to note the "tornado drills" that H would have conducted the 1st couple of nights of pre-camp. Also, the annual trip to the KI for the "blowing of the horn" by one of the new counselors. And most of all, the annual "walk" down the beachfront to remove all the debris out of the water to make it safer for all the "grubbies" due to arrive in a few days.

In addition, Pirate Jim would have yelled, "Hey, hey, get away from that tetherball!" at least a half dozen times by now.

Other than those omissions, you've managed to turn my thoughts back again to the northwoods and days of pure enjoyment. Where quotes from Aldo Leopold would be recited at Council Horseshoe tonight; where some grubby would be coerced into a backrub for a days canteen; where the call of the loon could be heard as the remaining refrains of "Day is Done" could be heard echoing across the waters. Yes, even those of us that only experienced the Horseshoe mystic as a counselor can relate.

As the sun sinks low behind the trees, a lone deer can be seen on the other side, taking a drink from the waters of Little Horseshoe. Truely, God is Nigh.

Hail to the Forrests!
